Ethernet Cabling
Consistency and reliability are important, so we try to follow a clear standard for all Ethernet cables and connections.
Wiring Standard
We use the T568B wiring standard for all terminations. Cables put in previously may use the T568A standard though.

⚠️ Always ensure both ends of a cable are wired using the same standard (T568B) — do not mix T568A and T568B on the same cable.
Cable Types
-
New Installations: Use Category 6 (Cat 6) cable where possible.
Cat 6 provides improved performance and is more reliable for gigabit and PoE applications. -
Existing Runs: Some older installations still use Cat 5e cable.
These are generally sufficient for most systems but will be upgraded over time.
General Notes
- Use proper strain relief and label both ends of every cable.
- When possible, test cables with a network cable tester before use.
